Janie is universe raised by her grandmother. As Janie grows into a you ng stripling she begins to dream of love and marriage. Nanny notices that Janie is winning interest in one of her male peers. This scares Nanny so she decides to wed Janie cancelled to Logan Killicks an older man with lots of gold and land. Nanny forces Janie to follow him at the age of sixteen. She does not love him nor is he amiable to her. Logan just involves her to be another go across behind the plow. A short time after they get married she meets Joe Sparks, who is also much older than Janie.
